What is Dramatherapy?

Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy which is concerned with exploring emotional and psychological difficulties which impact on our abilities to learn, communicate, form healthy relationships with others and be empowered to live fully.  Dramatherapy uses the healing aspects of drama, theatre and ritual in a creative and personal way.  It is a method of working and playing that engages a person physically as well as mentally and emotionally to facilitate creativity and imagination.  This aids with gaining perspective, learning and insight which in turn can lead to transformation, integration and emotional growth.   The eventual aim from the work is increased self-esteem, self confidence, improved social relationships and engagement with learning and work.


Dramatherapists can work with children and adults who are considered to be blocked from reaching their full potential due to emotional and mental health difficulties which manifest as challenging, harmful or risky behaviour, non-attendance/exclusion from school, withdrawal from relationships,  anxiety, depression, addiction or just a general sense of stuckness.
